Celebrate National Tequila Day with an Old Favorite

Jul 24, 2018 | Cocktail Recipes

Happy National Tequila Day! From shots to sipping to an array of cocktail options, there are many ways to enjoy the versatile agave-based spirit. But, we love a good margarita at SHG. We make them year-round with all sorts of interesting seasonal or show themed twists. Regardless of how we adjust the basic recipe, we always use a good tequila. You can taste the difference and it’s never a waste to use a top-quality spirit to make a top-quality cocktail – especially on National Tequila Day.

Today, we’re featuring one of our all-time favorites, the Margarita Sandia. Watermelon is one of our favorite summer ingredients and its sweetness is balanced perfectly by the smoked sea salt (even if you prefer your margaritas without a salt rim, we recommend adding a pinch to the shaker.) The cardamom bitters add an exotic note that rounds out this refreshing summer cocktail.

It was first created as a seasonal offering at Lincoln Center Theater’s Claire Tow Theater; but, quickly became such a hit with audiences that we made it a staple of our summer catering offerings. Guests at events of all sizes from cocktail parties to corporate events to elegant dinners have enjoyed one (or two!)

We hope you enjoy this (or come up with your own variant) for an impromptu cocktail party with friends to celebrate the day!
